We should all crave invention
I remember helping my dad put up a new flag at the family farm, after a storm had blown through. I was 11 or 12 years old at the time.
We then moved onto fix a fence and a barn door that day. With every tool I handed to him at his request, I asked him who made it.
He’d respond with where he’d purchased it from in town, but then he’d say that someone out there invented it, makin’ life a little more enjoyable, and work a little easier.
Over the past 25 years, I've had a front-row seat to invention. For the past decade, I've been a co-inventor—first with solar food dehydrators, distributed to nearly 50 countries, and now with indoor farms which have grown and served over 100,000 pounds of healthier food so far.
I think I get some of my desire to invent physical things from growing up on a farm and seeing my dad spend a lot of time in his woodshop. Always building something or learning a new tool.
A couple days back, I was able to drive my Tesla Cybertruck back to the family farm and take my dad for a ride. At 86 years young, he stood there and kept saying “what an invention. It’s a computer on wheels!”
If we all craved invention like my dad, life would be even more enjoyable, and work would be a little easier.
